Sewn: Shwin Designs Stella Tunic

I recently purchased two patterns from Shwin and Shwin – the Stella Tunic and Leggings, and the Maggie May Tunic/Dress (photos to come soon). I made this Stella Tunic as a birthday gift for a friends daughter. There are so many incredible pattern designers to be found online right now! I also want to make this, and this, and this, and this, and this!

My daughter was only too happy to model before we gave the tunic away!

I used a rayon and loved how it moved with her as she played in the yard.

The Stella Tunic was pretty easy to make, though it took me two days to work up the courage to make the buttonholes (the first ones I’d made since grade 9 sewing class). Thankfully the buttonhole foot on my Babylock made it a snap.

I had a question about the skirt facing and sent an email to Shauna at Shwin and Shwin. She replied quickly with an answer which was super helpful. I really appreciated that she took the time to respond.

IMG_3077The drop skirt in the back is lovely, and the addition of a cardigan and long leggings will look great in the colder months. My daughter will not wear anything if it ‘feels funny’; she was very comfortable in this and was a little sad to give it away. I’m excited to make one for her now!
